Jordy Van Masssenhove and his horses made a strong first impression in the United States this week, delivering a series of competitive performances at the Hampton Classic Horse Show across both National and CSI5* divisions.

Competing at one of the most recognised fixtures on the American show jumping calendar, Van Masssenhove earned results with Rambo Van't Zorgvliet and Lector, including placings in the 1.45 m National Grand Prix, the $116,000 1.55 m CSI5 Grand Prix Qualifier, and the $400,000 1.60 m Longines 5 Grand Prix.

The week marked a significant USA debut for team Chestnut Farm's rider and his horses, especially as they prepare to settle into a new base in Old Salem, New York for the next 6 months.

A strong opening week at the Hampton Classic

The Hampton Classic provided a demanding stage for Van Masssenhove’s first competitive appearance in the United States. The event attracts leading international riders, experienced horses, and a high standard of sport across multiple divisions.

For a debut appearance, the results showed consistency across different levels of competition. Van Masssenhove placed in National competition with Rambo Van't Zorgvliet, then returned to the international ring with Lector in two major CSI5* classes.

The performances were especially notable because they came during the pair’s first week competing on US soil. Adjusting to a new environment, new show conditions, and a different competition rhythm can be a major factor for both horse and rider. Van Masssenhove and his team turned that opening week into a set of clear results.

Results from the competition

Van Masssenhove’s Hampton Classic campaign included three key placings.

Horse

Class

Result

Rambo Van't Zorgvliet

1.45 m National Grand Prix

6th place

Lector

$116,000 1.55 m CSI5* Grand Prix Qualifier

9th place

Lector

$400,000 1.60 m Longines 5* Grand Prix

8th place

The results reflect a productive debut across two competitive tracks. Rambo Van't Zorgvliet secured a top-six finish in the 1.45 m National Grand Prix, while Lector stepped into the CSI5* spotlight with two top-ten finishes.

For Lector, the week included both a placing in the Grand Prix Qualifier and a result in the feature 1.60 m Longines 5* Grand Prix. That level of competition demands scope, accuracy, and quick recovery between major classes.

Rambo Van't Zorgvliet earns sixth in the National Grand Prix

Rambo Van't Zorgvliet opened the week’s results with a 6th-place finish in the 1.45 m National Grand Prix.

The National Grand Prix classes at the Hampton Classic offer strong competition in their own right. They also serve as an important platform for horses adapting to a major US show environment. A top-six placing gave Van Masssenhove a positive start and set the tone for the rest of the week.

At 1.45 m, courses ask serious questions. Riders need to balance pace, control, and technical precision, while horses must stay careful and responsive from start to finish. Rambo Van't Zorgvliet’s result added an important National division placing to the team’s USA debut week.

Lector steps up in CSI5* competition

Lector played a central role in Van Masssenhove’s international results at the Hampton Classic.

The horse first placed 9th in the $116,000 1.55 m CSI Grand Prix Qualifier, a class designed to test combinations before the headline Grand Prix. That result confirmed Lector’s form in a competitive international field.

Lector then returned for the $400,000 1.60 m Longines Grand Prix, where he finished 8th. The class stands among the major highlights of the Hampton Classic and brings together top combinations aiming for one of the week’s most prestigious results.

A top-ten finish in a 1.60 m CSI5* Grand Prix is a strong outcome at any international show. For it to come during Van Masssenhove’s first USA appearance gives the result added weight.

The USA CF team now heads to Old Salem, New York

After the Hampton Classic, Van Masssenhove and his horses will settle into their new base in Old Salem, New York.

The next show is still to be announced

Van Masssenhove’s next competition has not yet been announced.

After a strong Hampton Classic debut, attention now turns to where the team will appear next. With Rambo Van't Zorgvliet and Lector both delivering promising results, the coming weeks will be watched with interest.

For now, the Hampton Classic stands as a successful opening chapter in the United States. Van Masssenhove and his horses leave the show with three notable placings, valuable experience, and momentum as they begin life from their new base in New York.

Stay tuned for updates on their next show.
